ECCO FEI World Championships Herning – Denmark 2022 will be an all-embracing public celebration

Jun 11th 2021

Denmark has previously hosted large equestrian events, but never any events of this magnitude. When the world championships in dressage, para-dressage, vaulting and jumping take place in August 2022, it will not only be the largest equestrian event in Denmark ever as well as a sports event in a league of its own. It will also be a public celebration of immense proportions, characterized by a sense of community, unity, excitement and euphoria, enabling people across geography, age, riding skills, discipline preferences etc. to meet celebrate their mutual passion.

Team tournament focusing on community and inclusion

In other words, the event is a unique occasion focusing on community and cohesion, and we are looking very much forward to contributing to it through hosting a team tournament ending in a grand finale during the event. The tournament – running from June 1st 2021 to June 30th 2022 – covers all of our disciplines and runs on a D- and E-level. This way, the tournament has a wide appeal, and the riders have the opportunity to try out new disciplines. The 25 best teams will then compete against each other in the grand finale which will take place during the world championships.

“Generally, it is one of our main objectives to launch more activities with a broad appeal across ages, skills and disciplines, and the team tournament has just that. We have been inspired by our previous ‘century tournament’ from 2016-2017 which was extremely popular. What’s new is that you don’t need to be a member of a club, have a rider’s license or a competition registration for your horse to participate if you are competing on an E-level. This way, we hope to activate some of the riders we are not usually in contact with, and if they happen to join a club after the tournament, that’s just great, but it isn’t our main priority”, says CEO Morten Schram Rodtwitt.
